Originally called oil cakes by dutch settlers, they were sold in the streets of Manhattan where the fried confection was immediately seen as clones and copies appeared out of the blue.
Amongst the original doughnuts, is one of the first variations, the chocolate doughnut. Today it is an American treat and we shortened the name to donut. You can find a donut store in just about every city from New York to Los Angeles.
